![]() ![]() The Confederate Battle Flag took on a new meaning after the defeat of the South, symbolizing continuing southern resistance, racism, white supremacy, and segregation. Significantly, something lost in the minds of many Americans is recognizing that this flag does not just refer to this war that divided a country and caused the deaths of over six hundred thousand Americans. One might have assumed that the myths and distortions of the past had had their day of reckoning and that the causes, results, and lessons of the US Civil War had been learned by all Americans. It is both a disturbing and sobering image of where the United States of America is today.
